The Kieck Family
7852 Groveton Hills Place
In keeping with our focus on Florida Friendly Landscaping (FFL) for the next few months, the home of Greg and Amanda Kieck has been selected. Not only is the home a lovely shade of green, but their landscape is subtle and complementary to the home and surroundings. The main Florida friendly features are the large mulch beds, which minimize the environmental impact of turf (turfgrass).
Of particular interest is the use of Viburnum odoratissimum aka Sweet Viburnum as a foundation planting. Yes, this shrub can get tall if not managed, but it is both a Florida friendly approved woody ornamental, and not a problem species according to the UF/IFAS Assessment of Non-Native Plants. This shrub is a champ if you want a more informal hedge effect.
Also of note is the lovely maple to the left of the front door. In addition, the evergreen iris, when in bloom, picks up the white in the trim of the home. The deciduous crepe myrtle is left as is until later in spring in order to provide food and shelter for birds and bees throughout the winter.
The entire Kieck family is involved in regular maintenance on the property, including the spring mulching and the fall leaf removal. Ollie, their beautiful and friendly goldendoodle, supervises. Their focus is on hearty plants that are low maintenance and complement each other with added color in the spring.
Greg and Amanda, with their two sons, Chayce and Landen, moved to Deercreek from Atlanta in 2014. The active family is involved in various sports, from Greg’s frequent rounds of golf to Amanda’s many fitness routines. Chayce is a sophomore and baseball pitcher at Northwestern University, and Landen, also a baseball player, is in the fifth grade at The Bolles School. They all enjoy time together in the pool and patio, which they added at the back of the property.
