Long-time residents Ted and Vicki Jackson are our View honorees for August. They moved from Richmond. Va in 1990 upon a job transfer with CSX. They chose their Deercreek home after looking at many in Jacksonville and liked Deercreek’s convenient location. They watched it being built and were among the first residents (12th or 13th home built) in Deercreek. Their two children were in college at the time and did not make the move with them.
Their home is located on Bishop Lake with a view of the lake and the 17th tee box. They are visited regularly by ducks, geese, cranes and ibis in the pond, with birds and squirrels enjoying the backyard. In the summer, they are entertained by hummingbirds, butterflies and bees feasting on the pentas and other flowers. In addition, they are visited by deer and occasionally, by nesting turtles.
Their yard is beautifully planted and maintained – there are two live oaks framing the front yard, with ornamental evergreens and plants such as a Snowball bush, holly, and bleeding hearts providing color and interest. And in the backyard, caladiums are planted under a Japanese Blueberry tree, along with a crepe myrtle and bright pentas.
Over the years, their longtime landscaper, Gabriel, has guided them in making their landscape shine and now has taken over completely from Ted. Ted is retired from CSX with 39 years of service, and Vicki is a retired nurse. Both Ted and Vicki stay active, taking advantage of the exercise machines and classes at the Y.
They treasure their two children and their families and enjoy the memories they have made through the years. They are active in their church, the San Jose Church of Christ. They have enjoyed traveling on numerous cruises and land tours.
