The Deercreek Home and Garden Club launched a new year of exciting activities and events during a Membership Kickoff meeting held Wednesday, Aug. 20 at the Deercreek Country Club.
The meeting drew 66 in attendance, including 11 new members, as friends and neighbors caught up on summer travel and activities experienced since they last gathered this past May.
HGC President Barbara Denman welcomed members by explaining that the club’s activities and fundraising efforts are designed to enhance and promote community within the neighborhood.
She noted that these projects include beautifying the property by planting and maintaining flower beds, urns, and garden areas; collaborating with the HOA to create scenic areas; welcoming new residents; assisting with community holiday decorations; supporting charities of the Deercreek Women’s Alliance; presenting a monthly landscaping award; and sponsoring an appreciation luncheon for landscape workers and ground crews.
At the top of the kickoff meeting agenda was a preview of the calendar of events scheduled for the year 2025-2026.
The first activity of the year is a private guided tour of the art collection of Jacksonville’s Cummer Museum and an opportunity to explore the gardens. Tickets for the Tuesday, Sept. 16 event are $25 each and must be paid in advance. Following the tour, members will gather at a local restaurant for lunch.
October will be a busy month for HGC members beginning with a Sip and Shop evening featuring fashions from Leila’s Boutique on Wednesday, Oct. 1 from 5-7:30. And a demonstration on Decorating for the Holidays will be held Tuesday, Oct. 21 at 10 a.m. Both activities will be held at the club.
Another field trip is in store for HGC members to the Jacksonville Arboretum and Botanical Gardens on Tuesday, Nov.18, where a guided tour of the grounds will be a highlight of the trip.
The HGC Holiday Party is scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 3 at the Deercreek Club; and the annual Luminary Night is set for Tuesday, Dec. 9.
The remainder of the events include discussions on sustainable habitat and natural plants, on Jan.14; and developing backyard vegetable gardening, April. 21.
Deercreek’s favorite storyteller will be back Feb. 12 when the Women in History’s Ruth Pangrace will present a historical reenactment on Eleanor Roosevelt.
And the much-anticipated Spring Fashion Show and luncheon featuring HGC members modeling an array of Dillard’s Spring fashions will be held Tuesday, March 24. And who cannot resist the annual raffle featuring luxurious gift items held in conjunction with the fashion show.
Throughout the year, HGC members also lend a hand in activities sponsored by the club designed to create relationships within the community. These include the Back-to-School Bash, Fall Festival and Luminary Night, among others.
