From the Access Control Committee

Oct 1, 2025

The most common complaint heard by those involved with Access Control is golf carts speeding and running stop signs. Golf carts are motorized vehicles and are subject to the same state laws and Deercreek rules as any other motorized vehicle. In addition, due to their size, they are also in danger of not being visible to other vehicles. There have been several near misses between cars and golf carts lately. Hopefully it will not take a serious accident to get the attention of golf cart owners of their responsibility to obey the rules and protect their safety, as well as safety of others.

Private golf cart owners can now visit the guard house Monday through Friday, between 8 am and 2 pm, to certify and show proof of their golf cart liability insurance. This insurance protects the cart owner as well as the HOA in case of an accident. The cost for new, or unregistered carts is $10.00 by check, made payable to the DCCOA. For previously registered golf carts, a check made payable to the DCCOA, for $5. Failure to register a private cart at either the club or with the DCCOA will result in a $100 fine.

Halloween will be an opportunity for residents and children to roam the neighborhood in search of pounds of sweets to create immense sugar highs. Residents are reminded that unlicensed drivers are not allowed to drive any motorized vehicles, especially golf carts. Extra care should be taken that night to watch for folks walking in the roads.

Three other reminders:

  1. The Holiday Season is fast approaching. Security never takes a holiday. Remember to never visibly store anything of value in a vehicle, and keep all vehicles and residences locked at all times. Also, be aware of your surroundings, where you parked, and anything that seems strange. Do not put yourself in harm’s way by being in a hurry or not paying attention.
  2. It’s getting dark earlier. Walk or run in the roads facing traffic and wear bright colored clothes. Ditch the ear buds and carry a flashlight or some other illuminating device so drivers can see you. Sidewalks are safer than the roads, and ear buds are safer there, too.
  3. No debris of any kind in the roads for pickup by the waste management people. Debris can be a safety hazard. The owner resident is responsible for any incident that occurs because of the debris.
