From the Access Control Committee

November is the start of the Holiday Season. Here are some tips to make your season happy and safe:

  • E-bikes and scooters are some of the most dangerous items to buy for unlicensed drivers and children. They are hard to be seen on the Deercreek roadways and many times are operated by drivers who aren’t paying attention to their surroundings as well as not wearing helmets or other protective gear. As electric bikes have exploded in popularity lately, the number of accidents involving them has also grown significantly. Wolfson Children’s Hospital treated 115 young patients for injuries related to e-bikes or e-scooters in 2025, compared to just three patients in 2022. As of the end of this July, the hospital had already seen 106 patients. (Jacksonville Today).
    Bottom Line: Don’t buy them.
  • SECURITY and SAFETY become even higher priorities through the holidays. DO NOT place valuables where they can be seen in your vehicle.
    • Make sure all vehicles are locked, even when parked at home.
    • Make sure homes are locked.
    • Be aware of your surroundings when parking and entering your vehicle. Have ignition keys ready in your hand.
    • Be sure to park in well lighted areas.
    • Be watchful for more children on the Deercreek roads and when walking or running on the roads, wear light colored clothing and run or walk FACING the traffic. Using sidewalks for walking or running is preferred and safer.
    • Bicycles ride WITH the traffic, but do not ride two or more abreast. Be courteous to other vehicles on the road.
    • All vehicles should be courteous to other vehicles and bicycles or runners/walkers as Deercreek roads are not wide enough to provide adequate space for multiple uses.
  • Deercreek is a restricted access community, not a secure community; therefore, all vehicles entering the community must adhere to our requirements for entering and while in the community.
  • To expedite guest entrance for holiday gatherings:
    • Make sure all guest names are in the gate system at least 24 hours before the gathering. Or, prepare an alphabetical list of names, last names first, and take it to the guardhouse at least 24 hours before the event.
    • Inform guests that all drivers must have a valid driver’s license to be presented to the guards.
    • Residents are responsible for the driving events of all their guests while they are in Deercreek.
  • Thank you in advance to those caring enough about their personal safety, security and courtesy to follow these tips.
