From the Access Control Committee

May is a month of many activities which also translates to lots of opportunities for incidents.

• School will be ending for some students. That means more local traffic with bikes and cars, and the opportunity for vandalism. Be watchful for children and older young people and immediately report anything unusual to the guards or JSO.

• Along with school being out, there will be graduation parties. Please make sure all guest names are in the gate system at least 24 hours before the event. That will expedite your guests getting to the party in a much faster fashion. With the traffic load at the gate, guards may not have time to call residents about non-guest list visitors and will turn them around.

• Then comes Memorial Day and the events around it. The same recommendations regarding guests applies for holidays as well. Make sure names are in the gate list at least 24 hours in advance of the event.

• Another way to expedite guest entrance is to have them have their drivers’ license out and available BEFORE they get to the gate. Also, remind guests the speed limit in Deercreek is 30 miles per hour, RADAR enforced. Residents are responsible for any citations guests may receive while in Deercreek.

• Deercreek will be forming a swim team in the near future. That may increase traffic at the gates on certain days due to practice and swimming meets.

• There have been three traffic incidents in Deercreek in the past few months, the most recent two in about 48 hours of each other. Traffic safety never stops for vehicles, including golf carts.

• With all the activities happening in May, be sure to remove all valuables from vehicles and lock them. Vehicles are not broken into if they are unlocked. They are simply burgled due to the carelessness of the owner. The same goes for homes.

• Thanks as always for the folks who walk/run facing the traffic with no ear buds or headphones and wear light clothing at least at night. Many of those also use the sidewalks. They are the folks who care about their personal safety, and perhaps the safety of others.
