USTA National Tennis Championships

In early April, eight ladies from our Deercreek tennis team travelled to Surprise, Arizona to represent Florida and compete in the USTA 55+ Women's 6.0 2014 National Tennis Championships.

"Though we did not advance to the finals," says team captain, Janet Daechsel, "we were certainly competitive, winning 5 of our 9 matches. Three of our 4 losses came down to nail-biting 3rd set tiebreak." Our Lucky In Love Aztec tennis skirts were a big hit. We received so many compliments we gave ourselves an unofficial "best dressed" award!

What an awesome adventure and great experience that we hope to be fortunate enough to have again in the years to come. In the meantime we have lots of fond memories from our experience on the big tennis stage. It was truly an honor to represent the state of Florida and Deercreek!

We are very appreciative of the coaching and support we received from Mike Hatfield, Deercreek Head Tennis Professional. Not only did Mike come to Arizona to cheer us on, he provided us with numerous clinics this past winter to make sure we were well prepared to compete on the hard courts of Arizona.

Team members: Jyothi Berman, Janet Daechsel (captain), Dena Grossman, Bonnie King, Marianne Koo, Vicki McLenahan, Linda Proudfoot, Paige Yauger

Congratulations to Bill Ireland and Lee Kermode from Deercreek who are also travelling to Surprise, Arizona in April to compete in the 9.0 Men's National Championships. Likewise, good luck to the Deercreek 55+ Women's 3.5 2014 USTA Team that is competing at the 2014 state of Florida Championships in early May in Daytona. Go Deercreek!
