On Monday September 17, the Deercreek Book Club will meet at 10:00 at the home of MaryAnn Grauwiler to discuss Phil Knight’s book, Shoe
It was only when Nike founder Phil Knight got cut from the basketball team as a high school freshman that his mother suggested he try for track instead. Knight made the track team and he found he could run fast, and he liked it.
Ten years later, young and searching, Knight borrowed fifty dollars from his father and launched a company with one simple mission; high quality running shoes from Japan. He and his gang of friends and runners began selling the shoes from the trunk of his car, but eventually built one of the most successful brands ever.
Phil Knight encountered risks and setbacks along the way. But he always followed his own advice. Just keep going. Don’t stop. Whatever comes up, don’t stop. Filled with wisdom, humanity, humor, and heart, Shoe Dog is the story of determination that will inspire.
The Deercreek Book Club meets the 3rd Monday of every month at the homes of residents. The hostess serves a light snack and beverages. We welcome new members, if interested in more information call or text Mary Louise Selzer, 904-613-6147 or e-mail MLSelzer@comcast.net.
