Literary Circle April 2016
The literary circle will meet on the 3rd Monday of April at the Home of Arlene McDermott to discuss The Sherlockian by Graham Moore. The Sherlockian is a must read novel for admirers of historical fiction. In 1893 Londoners ripped open the Strand Magazines for the latest installment of Sherlock Holmes, only to find that Arthur Conan Doyle had killed off their hero. London crowds demanded an explanation. Eight years later he abruptly brings him back in a new series of adventures. The author offers no explanation.
After his death, his diary, which would have shed light on his mysterious reasoning, went missing.
Now in 2010, Harold White embarks on a hunt for the missing diary. But after the world’s leading Doylean scholar is murdered in his hotel, Harold takes up the search for the diary and the killer. He delves into the arcane history of Sherlock Holmes and his creator, discovering a secret that proves to be anything but elementary.
